My story
I was diagnosed at 29 years old, unusual. My first thought was probably like yours, 'this isn't good, how am I going to manage'. My second thought was, how bad can it be? 30 years later I have an answer for that, and it's not the one I expected.
The hard part of Type 1 isn't the needles. It's the maths. Every meal, every walk, every gym session, every glass of wine — a calculation.
I tried guessing, I tried counting every gram of carbohydrate, by reading labels or searching the Internet, and again guessing. It just felt difficult, as if life wasn't difficult enough.
So in a world of modern technology, I started building iSpike for myself. Just a tool to take a photo of dinner and get a sensible carb number back. But quickly, as I added features, it morphed into the feature packed diabetes friend I now have.
A few Type 1 friends asked if they could try it. Then a few of theirs. So here it is.
